Louisiana Citizens Assessment Letter
January 2007
By: Hannis T. Bourgeois, LLP
Dear Client:
In December of 2006, the Louisiana Legislature authorized a refundable income tax credit for LA Citizens assessments that resulted from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This credit is available to individuals and businesses who paid the LA Citizens assessments as part of their homeowners or property insurance premium.
The amount of the assessments are shown as one or more separate items on the face of the declarations page. They will read:
Louisiana Citizens FAIR Plan Regular Assessment
Louisiana Citizens Coastal Plan Regular Assessment
Emergency Assessments
When you bring your tax information to us, please bring a copy of your “declarations” page from your 2006 insurance policy premium notice. This will need to be attached to your income tax return. Some taxpayers were assessed in 2006 and some will be assessed in 2007. You will get a credit in the year you paid the assessment.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office.
Sincerely,
Hannis T. Bourgeois, LLP
